Slingshot Movie Premiere

SlingShot focuses on FIRST founder, noted inventor Dean Kamen, his fascinating life, and his 15-year quest to solve the world's water crisis. A technological genius with a provocative worldview, Kamen is an inspiration for future scientists. His inventions help people in need and ease suffering. SlingShot is about an indomitable man who just might have enough passion and innovative thinking to create a solution for a crisis affecting billions.

SlingShot is both an inspirational character study and a look at Kamen’s vapor compression distiller from its earliest development through recent trials in rural Ghana and beyond

Business and Marketing

Business and Marketing have been working on awards, and spreading the word of the Slingshot Premiere to a wider audience. They are also starting work on the Chairman's Award, the most prestigious award a team can receive in FIRST Robotics. Their work for the Woodie Flowers' Award has been completed, and is currently going through a thorough review. 3 veteran members of the team are currently working on other major parts of the awards.

Programming

Programming has been working on designing code for the lift system on the robot. They are also beginning work on coding the limit switches and pulley systems on the robot. Their plan for next week is to finish the Teleoperated code, and work on the Autonomous system code. They are also aiming to finish coding for a test robot so they can start reading values off of it and adjusting their code accordingly. Once they finish autonomous code and debugging, they will begin on creating the final code.

Design

The design team has began finalizing designs for every part going on the robot, and has sent both the winch system and the drive chassis to the shop for the Mechanical Team to begin creating parts. The mock drivetrain is being assembled on a wood chassis to have the drivers practice. Next week, they plan to have everything done except the forklift system.

Build

The build team is making great progress with the motor mounts, and aluminum brackets. Most parts of the robot are cut, and they are working on the chassis and cutting the square stocks to length. They are also beginning to drill holes in the chassis, and their plan for next week is to both finish the chassis and the forklift.

Electrical

The electrical team has finished getting the kinks out of our test board. They are working with mechanical to get all the electrical equipment placed on the test chassis to test drive. Next week, they plan to work with the Programming team to test the chassis and drive system.

Student Spotlight

Konrad Kottke

As a senior, how has your experience within robotics been?
It has been a very exciting experience for me, and (as a senior) I finally have the ability to make an impact on the team. When I first joined the team as a freshman, I felt that since I was new, I couldn't really contribute. But, after all my experiences here, I have realized that age does not matter, you can always help with new ideas.

What do you plan to do after leaving high school?
I plan to go into Architectural Design.
Do you think that robotics has helped you with your future plans?
Robotics helped me by improving my mentality towards completing projects. I know that the skills I learned being in robotics will help me in the real world.

Thanks Konrad!
