Electrical

The rookies on the electrical sub-team have been applying the knowledge they learned last week on electrical systems, like PMW and Daisy Chains, on the practice robot. Veterans have focused on aiding the rookies and making sure the new members are comfortable with the new information. So far, the motors have been planned out on the electrical board but the goal is to have the final design for the electrical board by the end of the week. Getting rookies practice time on an old robot is another goal for the week in order to give them more hands on experience with electrical systems. Some challenges that the electrical sub-team has been facing is overcoming size issues and very fast battery draining due to the large amount of motors on this year’s robot. Despite those challenges, there aren’t pneumatics on this year’s robot which is a huge space saver for the electrical team.

Design

The design sub-team’s rookies are currently working on prototyping the launcher system, with help from the veterans of course. Aside from helping the rookies, the veterans are working with the electrical sub-team to help with the layout of the electrical board. By the end of the week, the design sub-team hopes to complete all of the subsystems’ designs and hand them over to mechanical, especially the launcher, after they finish the working drawings. Overall, design feels that they are on a good track to getting this year’s robot to programming by the 11th of February.

Mechanical

Rookies on the mechanical sub-team have been focusing on reinforcing their knowledge on machining with the mills. Veterans are continuing to guide the rookies with their work in the shop but have also been helping out the design sub-team on getting the gear subsystem prototyped. The mechanical team is also working with electrical by helping overlook the positions of the circuits on the practice robot. This season is a huge improvement from last year since the working drawings from design haven’t needed to be redone and communication between the sub teams is very efficient.

Programming

The rookies on the programming sub-team have continued working on coding subsystems for the robot. Some of these subsystems include the winch, load, and shooter systems. Veterans have been primarily aiding the rookies with their assigned subsystem code. Along with that, veterans have been working on setting up controls for driver trials and working on setting up LED indicator lights on this year’s robot with electrical. The goal for the veterans is to have all basic subsystems coded. Some challenges programming has been working to overcome has been getting swerve drive to work properly, but have made great progress so far. Lastly vision tracking has been one of the biggest improvements, all because of Mr. Klein’s new equation to help vision tracking center on a target.

Business

The business sub team has been working on the awards for this year such as the Chairman’s Award, Business Plan and Woodie Flowers. The rookies have been reading, revising, and editing last year’s submissions of the Chairman’s Award and the Business Plan so that they are accurate and updated. Woodie Flowers has been taken by the veterans who are interviewing other mentors and members on the team to gain a deeper insight on this year’s candidate. Along with awards, business has also been improving the team’s scouting system on Excel to accurately rank and observe robots at the competitions. Another part the business sub-team is working on, is updating and improving the new website to be user friendly and filled with any information you would need to know about Team 2506 Saber Robotics, all while working on this week’s newsletter.
