Preseason 2016

Welcome a new season of Saber Robotics!
During our preseason, our rookie and veteran members are learning new skills that will help them solve the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Challenge. The challenge involves building and designing a robot to complete a specific task. Learning these skills will not only prepare our members to successfully complete the challenge, but also provide valuable skills that will help them in their future.  Our preseason progress is highlighted below.

Business and Marketing

The business and marketing team has been getting members up to speed with website design. They are creating and editing websites, sending letters to sponsors, and are having fun interviewing the different sub-teams. They are planning events, like fundraising and team socials.

Programming

The programming team is learning “Do/While Loops” with the help of Veterans who ensure that everyone is on the right path. Members receive many chances to participate in learning code and how to use it to interact with the robot.

Mechanical

Rookies are having a lot of fun learning the layout of shop and how to use the materials. The Veteran members have taught the Rookies how to work the mills and are ready for build season to begin. The team is also cross training with the design students to learn how to read and make working drawings on Inventor.

Electrical

This sub-team is eager to work on a robot. They get to learn new skills without taking technical classes. The electrical team is learning how to program and wire LEDs on breadboards using arduinos, an electronic prototyping platform, while testing their skills on the robot from last year.

Design

Everyone is excited for competition. They are hoping to learn new skills to help their career paths. The team is focusing on learning more skills on Inventor, doing little engineering challenges, and making layouts for a design report.

Rookies

Overall, the Rookies are having fun learning skills. Workshops are new to all Rookies, but the Veterans are teaching and ensuring everyone feels comfortable in their sub-teams. Rookie members are excited and confident to apply their newly learned skills to the build-season.

Veterans

The Veteran members are teaching the Rookies how to do various tasks in their sub-teams. All veterans are being taught how to use the mills. They believe that the rookies are ready for the build season!
