RoboRun

We are happy to announce a Spring fundraiser that will be held at Franklin High School.  The 2017 Saber Robotics Roborun will be a 2.506 mile run/walk that will take place Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 PM. Participants will run on trails behind the school and the FHS track.  Prizes will be awarded to top racers in various age groups and a raffle will be held for additional prizes. Registration information will be posted in upcoming weeks!

Electrical

The rookies on the electrical sub-team have been working with the veterans on learning more about the electrical and pneumatic systems that will be implemented this year, or possibly in future years. They are also wiring the 2013 robot in order to create a backup for the original practice bot. Electrical is collaborating with design for the layout of the electrical board on Autocad. They are also working with programming as always to ensure that all of the systems in the robot will work. Their goals for the week are to fully design the electrical board and get started on its construction, as well as making sure the rookies know what they’re doing before they get to wiring the actual board. Electrical has more space than last year, making things easier. But they are facing the problem of the multiple amount of motors, and the size and battery drain issues that come along with it. Electrical also has to make sure that everything is 100% secured because of this year’s climb system.

Design

The rookies on the design sub-team are designing parts on the subsystems such as the bagel slicer and compiling the bill of materials ordered. Design has been working with mechanical which has been giving input to them on whether it is possible to make a part or not. Design was helping electrical rookies build prototypes of the electrical board along with assisting programming with any swerve module problems. The ultimate goal for the week is to get working drawings done by the end of this week and sent out to the shop. All designing of subsystems should be done by Saturday which will be achieved by spreading out the work with finishing the subsystems. The main obstacles for the design subteam are trying to figure out size constraints and launch trajectory calculations.  But so far they have finished the winch, gear hop mechanisms, chassis, and bumpers. Once everything is finished, they are going to start designs for another bot that is exactly the same for the drive team to practice on.

Mechanical

The rookies on the mechanical sub-team are working on a variety of pieces for example, Sid is working on an intake piece that is a bar of aluminum with two slots on either side. Another example is Kyler, who is working on chassis pieces which require a few holes to be drilled. Mechanical is collaborating with design to construct the finished pieces into the sub-systems, and when there was a shortage of mechanical members in the shop design members came to help make parts. The goals for mechanical are to finish the subsystems and the chassis of the robot by Saturday, which does require design to finish the working drawings for the parts that we need to mill. The challenge is that right now we are waiting on materials to arrive, such as the U-stock for the intake system and .125 thickness angle stock for the intake system too. Once these parts come in we hope to have a finished robot.

Business

The business sub-team is trying to finalize the awards for this year such as the Chairman’s Award, Business Plan, and Woodie Flowers. The rookies have been working with veterans to edit last year’s submissions of the Chairman’s Award and the Business Plan. Woodie Flowers is also being finalized as veterans are compiling all the information they have gathered on this year’s candidate. Business has continued work on the team’s scouting system with the help of programmers. Rookies and veterans on the business sub-team have been working on updating and improving the new website to be user-friendly and easily accessible. Other members have started the quest to build team spirit through super fan shirts, button making, and event shirts. New this week was the launch of our 2.506-mile run fundraiser which the business team is working on organizing. The website will be launching soon for this event's registration, anyone is welcome.

Programming

The rookies on programming have been working with autonomous vision tracking and Arduino. The programming sub-team has been working with the electrical team to get the 2017 robot’s rolling chassis functioning. Programming has encountered mechanical issues with our test robot’s swerve modules not working while calibrating them. Their goal is to have a fully functioning rolling chassis by the end of the week.
