RoboRun

We are happy to announce a Spring fundraiser that will be held at Franklin High School. The 2017 Saber Robotics RoboRun will be a 2.506 mile run/walk that will take place Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 PM. Participants will run on trails behind the school and the FHS track. Prizes will be awarded to top racers in various age groups and a raffle will be held for additional prizes. Registration can be completed at the following website,  tinyurl.com/2506RoboRun.

Programming

The rookies are learning more about java language and general programming concepts. As of right now programming is working with electrical so they may start coding swerve onto the new chassis. The programming veterans have also taken another initiative by preparing many programmers to take the AP Computer Science A test in the spring for possible college credits towards their major. The main goal for this week is to finish programming swerve for the 2017 robot with an autonomous code. Rookies have been stepping up to help perfect the swerve code and help each other understand the programming concepts and language.

Electrical

This week, the rookies on the electrical sub-team have been researching the amount of power that the battery will bring to each electrical component of the robot and making sure the battery has enough power to sustain those components. Aside from helping the rookies with research, the veterans’ goal for the week is to finish the electrical board. Collaborating with design has been crucial in order to help calculate the amps that are required to run the robot and make sure the battery is not burnt out or overworked. Electrical is making progress on the electrical board, however, they are struggling to design it for the best possible working condition, which has taken more time than anticipated.

Mechanical

The rookies in mechanical have been working hard on pieces for the winch system: this system allows the robot to climb the rope. They have also been rough cutting pieces for the intake system while the mills are occupied for other parts. The overall goal for the mechanical sub-team is to finish all of the pieces needed for the different systems of the robot. When the parts are done for a system or a part of the robot, it is sent to design to be assembled. Mechanical will also be helping assemble the robot when all pieces are finished. Some things that are going well in accomplishing their goals is that the rookies are understanding what needs to be done to finish parts quickly.

Design

This week, the design sub-team has been working proficiently to finish designing parts and assembling the systems they have the parts for. The goal for this week is to get all CAD drawings completed. Having all parts built right the first time is also a huge focus for design to guarantee the robot getting done in a timely manner. This will ensure we don’t set back deadlines because of preventable mistakes. Most subsystems have already started being built and winch systems are currently being tested. Besides working heavily with mechanical to get parts made, design has been collaborating with electrical by sizing the electrical board and helping fix, wire, and place the wheel modules on the robot. Despite experiencing roadblocks that led to schedule delays, design has been working very hard to get into a good position to get the robot complete before the deadline.

Business

The business and marketing sub-team has had a busy week. Two rookies had been heavily working on last minute revisions for the Chairman’s Award before it was submitted on Tuesday, while the other rookies were working on acquiring sponsors for the 2.506 mile RoboRun on May 27th. As for the veterans, they have completed this year’s Woodie Flowers Award and have finished the edits on a previous Woodie Flowers Finalist Award, both of which have been submitted. Business has continued to work on scouting with multiple members of programming and the website is being updated and improved, like always. Our RoboRun fundraiser registration process has now begun and members of the business sub-team have begun reaching out to local business for sponsorships.
