RoboRun

We are happy to announce a Spring fundraiser that will be held at Franklin High School. The 2017 Saber Robotics RoboRun will be a 2.506 mile run/walk that will take place Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 PM. Participants will run on trails behind the school and the FHS track. Prizes will be awarded to top racers in various age groups and a raffle will be held for additional prizes. Registration can be completed at the following website,  tinyurl.com/2506RoboRun.

Programming

Rookies have taken initiative to help in coding the actual robot. The main goal for the week is to finish the autonomous code as well as all the other codes for swerve drive and the other subsystems of the robot. There has been collaboration between the programming and electrical subteams in debugging this year’s robot. The major issue programming has been facing is the wheels spinning much faster than they are supposed to be. On the positive side, base codes for all of the subsystems are complete and ready to be uploaded and modified.

Mechanical

Mechanical is working to get the second chassis finished by the end of the week. In order to complete this goal, members of the mechanical team are working on the parts needed for this chassis. One area that is going smoothly this week is that rookies are having no problems with using the machines in the shop and are comfortable milling parts by themselves.

Design

Rookies in design have been working heavily on the design report, a very detailed description of everything that has happened involving the design of this year’s robot. The main goal for design veterans is to put the subsystems on the robot by the end of the week. Efforts to complete this goal includes splitting up the last subsystems among more members to quickly complete them. Fixing issues with the winch and mounting the hopper intake have taken first priority in order to complete these goals. Collaboration with mechanical has been crucial in mounting parts on the robot and making last minute changes. A large improvement from last year has been the communication with mechanical during this last week by knowing exactly what needs to happen in order to stay on track.

Electrical

This week, the rookies in electrical are working closely with the veterans to fix any problems on the electrical board that may be encountered throughout the week. The whole electrical sub-team is working to ensure that the electrical board is as well put together as it can be and are starting a second electrical board to use after bag and tag. In order to accomplish these goals, electrical is working with programming to sort out any issues. There are lots of wires/motor controllers on the board so wire management is a serious issue this year. On the positive side, problems are much easier to diagnose with the slide-out electrical board.

Business

Rookies on the business team have been working hard to get the business plan submitted. Once it is submitted, their focus will shift to completing the judges' packets for competition. As always, veterans are working on the website to make it as efficient and user-friendly as possible. Our mini competition at Sussex is this Sunday, and our scouting program has been a major focus to ensure it is completed by this date. Also, flyers to promote the RoboRun on May 27th have been designed and are being spread across the school and community, look for the codes on the flyer’s to get a discount when registering as a run.
